Registration Renewal Process
Generally, the Arizona MVD will start sending you reminders about your registration a few weeks before it expires. These reminders should tell you your renewal fee options and expiration date, along with whether or not your vehicle needs an emissions test first. Once you’re ready to renew, stop by your nearest GG&D location with your payment and emissions paperwork (if applicable). Once we’ve processed your renewal, keep your receipt until you receive your new registration and tag in the mail. Convenience fees may apply.

Avoid Paying Late Fees
Letting your registration expire will lead to you paying late fees. The late renewal penalty fee is $8 for the first month and $4 for each additional month, up to a maximum total penalty of $100. Early renewal is possible with a passed emissions test (3 months in advance is best).
Registration Renewal Options
Arizona gives most vehicle owners three different renewal term options. If you don’t see all three on your renewal notice, it could be due to a change in emissions requirements. But generally, you’ll have the option to renew for:
- 1 year
- 2 years
