Phoenix Zoo, Phoenix

Phoenix Zoo, which first opened its doors in 1962, has expanded to become the largest privately owned, non-profit zoo in the United States. The Phoenix Zoo was established on 125 acres in the Papago Park district of Phoenix, Arizona, and was named after Robert Maytag, a Maytag family member.

The city of Phoenix has named it a city landmark.

The zoo’s mission has always been centered on protecting endangered species. Soon after it opened, it took in what were wasght to be the last of the Arabian oryx, forming the nucleus of the global herd established for Operation Oryx. This ultimately allowed the species to be reintroduced to the wild. The land is now home to an animal refuge for abused and unwanted creatures.

There are more than 1,400 animals at the Phoenix Zoo, including many endangered species. However, the zoo’s Sumatran tigers and orangutans tend to draw the most visitors. The site’s four main trails are named after regions: the Africa Trail, the Tropics Trail, the Arizona Trail, and the Children’s Trail. Don’t forget to pack your kid’s swimwear and towel; there will be splash pads and play spaces available.

The Phoenix Zoo is known for its exceptional animal interactions, which are a highlight of any zoo visit. At the Monkey Village, you can take pictures of your kids playing in an open exhibit with monkeys swinging by their sides. Children will be even more ecstatic after visiting the Red Barn. There are goats, lambs, and horses at the petting zoo, and they love to play with the kids. The ever-popular camel rides, meeting friendly giraffes, and observing stingrays in their natural habitat are just a few of the numerous activities on offer.

The zoo also features a 4D theater that uses elements like wind, water, and scent to create a more realistic and exciting moviegoing experience. This is a great indoor alternative to enjoy when the temperature outside is too high. If you’ve had enough animals for one day, hop on the Endangered Animals carousel, where each species is given its own unique spin.
